PETERBOROUGH skipper Ulrich Ostergaard has powered to one of the biggest victories of his career.

The popular Readypower Panthers star won the Premier League Riders' Championship with a stunning performance at Sheffield this evening.

And Ostergaard admits he was happy to fly under the radar after not featuring among the pre-meeting favourites for glory despite a podium finish last year.

The delighted Dane said: "I've had an up and down season so it is great to win such a big meeting.

"I knew I wasn't one of the favourites so there was no pressure on me. I love the track at Sheffield though and everything went well.

"My team did a great job and I'm so pleased for them that I could do the job on the track.

"It's a great result for me and for Peterborough as well."

Ostergaard topped the standings alongside Edinburgh skipper Craig Cook on 12 points after the qualifying heats as the pair booked their places in the final.

And he made no mistake in the showpiece race with a fine ride to hit the front early on and keep his rivals at bay.

Workington ace Ricky Wells followed Ostergaard home with Cook having to settle for third – the same spot Ostergaard had occupied 12 months ago
