PETERBOROUGH promoter Ged Rathbone has called on Zdenek Holub to prove he is a Premier League match-winner.

The Czech rider has endured a tough spell since being snapped up by the 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers in June.

His 10 appearances for the club so far have yielded just 24 points from the number seven berth, but Rathbone remains convinced that Holub is capable of better.

He said: "We've had a long chat with Zdenek and his mentor, Tomas Topinka, to try to get to the bottom of why he has been struggling.

"Zdenek has a good pedigree and his performances on the continent suggest he should be capable of scoring big points at reserve in the Premier League.

"He knows we expect more than he has delivered so far and he is well aware of the need to improve.

"We still believe he can be a match-winner for us, but obviously need to see evidence of that sooner rather than later.

"We'll monitor his progress in the next three meetings, but I'm not going to rule out late changes to the team before the August 31 deadline if I feel they are necessary.

"We're here to win honours and if we have to make moves that some people might see as harsh, that's exactly what we'll do."

Peterborough travel to play-off rivals Newcastle tomorrow (Sunday) before hosting the Diamonds in a return clash at the East of England Showground on Friday, August 26.

They also entertain Redcar on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29.
