MORRIS MISSION

Friday August 19, 2020
PETERBOROUGH reserve Ashley Morris already knows what it feels like to win the Premier League . . . now he wants to experience it again with the 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers.

Morris has been an impressive performer at reserve since arriving as a replacement for injury victim Simon Lambert in early July.

The 22 year-old has scored consistently well at the bottom of the order to earn an extension on his initial short-term stint.

And he responded by producing his best performance to date with an 11+1 point haul as Peterborough triumphed 50-40 at Berwick last Saturday.

It was a triumph which boosted their hopes of reaching the play-offs and challenging for a championship crown which Morris lifted when at Edinburgh six years ago.

"It was good feeling to win the league in 2010 even though I only came into that Edinburgh team late in the season," said Morris.

"It would be even more satisfying to win it Peterborough because we have a great bunch of lads here and I'll have been in the team for longer.

"I was giving up hope of getting back into the Premier League this season, but Peterborough gave me the chance to show what I can do.

"It was bad luck for Simon Lambert to crash and get injured, but I've just tried to make the most of the opportunity.

"I'm sure we can make it into the play-offs from this position. It's just a case of all the guys clicking to make sure we pick up the results we need.

"It was a great win at Berwick and I was pleased to be able to chip in with plenty of points. It's certainly the best score I've ever had up there.

"We've done well on the road, but we've got to get things right at home as well now we're getting to the serious part of the season."

Peterborough have six meetings remaining in the regular season - four at home and two on the road.

The first of those is at Newcastle on Sunday (6.30pm).
