PETERBOROUGH star Craig Cook helped Great Britain capture silver medals in the World Cup Final tonight.
The ‘T Balfe Construction’ Panthers number one produced a vital victory in heat 16 as Alun Rossiter’s men clawed their way into runners-up spot.
Poland were crowned champions on 39 points at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester while the GB quartet of Cook, Tai Woffinden, Danny King and Robert Lambert amassed 32 points to take second place. Sweden finished third on 30 points while Australia brought up the rear on 22.
Cook said: “It was fantastic to be a part of such a great meeting and hopefully our performance can do a lot for speedway.
“There is no better feeling than winning a race in a World Cup Final in a Great Britain racesuit and we had such great support."
Woffinden was responsible for more than half of Great Britain’s tally with a sparkling 19-point haul boosted by a successful joker rider.
Cook and British champion Danny King both added five points while Lambert notched three.
Cook returns to club action tomorrow when spearheading the Peterborough team at Workington in a Premier League clash.
