'GROND' RETURN FOR PANTHERS

Emil Grondal is being tipped to be a big Premier League hit after earning a Peterborough return for 2016.

Readypower Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone has high hopes for the World Under 21 finalist as he enters his first full season of British racing.

Grondal (20) quickly became a fans' favourite after breaking into British speedway last summer. He has since become a club asset and demonstrated his ability at the East of England Showground on several occasions in the second half of the 2015 campaign.

And, with valuable experience of a number of away tracks also under his belt, Rathbone reckons his latest recruit can now send his 5.12 starting average rocketing.

Rathbone said: "It was very tough for Emil to come into a new country on an assessed average last summer, but he impressed me with his attitude and performances.

"He was desperate to be a Peterborough rider and I'm delighted we decided to take a gamble on him.

"He produced plenty of good scores at the Showground and gave the odd glimpse of what he can do on the road.

"That initial experience will stand him in good stead for 2016 and, as with all of our signings so far, there is plenty of scope for him to improve his average.

"Whether he starts the season at reserve or in the main body of the team will depend on the direction we go in with our final couple of signings, but either way I'm expecting big things from him."

Grondal becomes the fifth confirmed Peterborough rider for next season . . . and he is the fourth Dane to put pen to paper.

He can list captain Ulrich Ostergaard, new signing Nokolaj Busk Jakobsen and fellow returnee Michael Palm Toft as countrymen.

British reserve Tom Perry is also signed and sealed for 2016 with club bosses now having 13.64 of their available 42.50 team-building limit remaining to complete their side.

And Rathbone revealed Peterborough are not the only English club keen to secure Grondal's services.

He added: "Emil has been attracting attention from clubs in the Elite League and I'm not in the least bit surprised.

"He has an excellent pedigree and is very highly-rated in the sport."
