ULRICH IS BACK!

Peterborough have made popular skipper Ulrich Ostergaard their first signing of a new era of speedway.

Club chief Ged Rathbone has moved swiftly to secure the services of the dazzling Dane just days after Panthers' survival at Premier League level was secured.

Ostergaard enjoyed a successful return to the East of England Showground last season when adding close to one-and-a-half points onto his starting average.

It means the 2006 Elite League title-winner will start the 2015 campaign on a mark of 8.00, but Rathbone is convinced the 33 year-old can still improve further.

Rathbone said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to keep hold of Ulrich because he was a man in huge demand this winter.

"I know that more than half of the teams in the Premier League were keen to sign him, but there was only one place he wanted to race.

"He did take a bit of a gamble in some respects by holding on for our situation to become clear, but that just shows his desire to be at Peterborough. He regards the place as his home in the UK.

"We all saw during last season that Ulrich is one of the leading riders at this level. He performed superbly home and away while conducting himself very professionally off the track.

"It is a signing we felt we had to make and we firmly believe there is more improvement to come from Ulrich next year."

Ostergaard will retain the captaincy for the 2015 season when Rathbone and long-serving co-promoter Trevor Swales will run the sport in Peterborough.

Ostergaard has enjoyed a fine working relationship with Rathbone in recent years at both Redcar and Peterborough.

Rathbone has stressed that Panthers' late arrival into the Premier League fray has not hampered their team-building plans in any way.

"Myself and Trevor have drawn up a list of targets," added Rathbone. "And we are now working hard to obtain them.

"We are delighted to get Ulrich back on board and we hope further signings will follow shortly."
