BIRMINGHAM v PANTHERS, PREVIEW

Tuesday September 11, 2018
PETERBOROUGH head to Birmingham for an Inter-League Challenge fixture at Perry Barr on Wednesday (7.30pm).

The two clubs enjoyed some fine battles in their top-flight days, but the Brummies have been racing at National League level after being rescued prior to the 2015 campaign.

New owners David and Peter Mason are seeking to test the water for their future prospects by racing a meeting at a higher level, and the match will be run using a six-man team format, although still over 15 races.

Since the fixture was initially agreed, Panthers have been forced into changes as Scott Nicholls and Tom Bacon are injured, Michael Palm Toft and Emil Grondal are racing in Denmark, and Bradley Wilson-Dean has a commitment for Somerset.

Skipper Simon Lambert and recently returned Ulrich Ostergaard do make the trip to the West Midlands, along with three riders with strong Panthers connections – Ben Barker, Paul Starke and David Howe.

The team is completed by Redcar’s Jordan Stewart, who made a good impression when guesting for Bacon in the win over Berwick on Sunday.

Co-promoter Ged Rathbone said: “Jordan is a rider who I’ve watched on many occasions at Redcar this season, and he is very much in our thoughts as regards guesting for Tom over the next few weeks.

“We enjoyed working with him on Sunday, and he liked the way we worked, so this is another opportunity for him, and although it’s not our normal team on Wednesday it’s still a team with a strong Peterborough flavour.”

BIRMINGHAM: Adam Ellis, Dany Gappmaier, Jason Garrity, Sam Masters, Ashley Morris, James Shanes.
PETERBOROUGH: Ben Barker, David Howe, Simon Lambert, Ulrich Ostergaard, Paul Starke, Jordan Stewart.
