FAN-TASTIC FINAL AHEAD

Sunday October 22, 2017
PETERBOROUGH team boss Carl Johnson wants his riders and the club's supporters to rise to the SGB Championship KO Cup final occasion today.

The 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers entertain East Anglian rivals Ipswich in the first leg of the trophy battle at the East of England Arena (5pm).

And producing a big performance in front of an expected huge crowd is the goal for Peterborough as they attempt to put themselves in a strong position ahead of the second leg at Ipswich this Thursday.

Johnson said: "We've done superbly to reach the final and give ourselves the chance to win another trophy - but now the hard work really begins!

"We've got to do the business on the the track and we need everyone behind us. The fans are our eighth man and they can make a massive difference.

"The East of England Arena is one of the special places in speedway. I'm expecting a massive turnout and an electric atmosphere.

"We're looking to build a lead just as we did in the semi-final against Glasgow. Everyone knows Ipswich has not been our happiest hunting ground in recent times, but previous form goes out of the window in big meetings like these."

Peterborough have called up seven-time British champion Scott Nicholls to guest at number one with Jack Holder still laid low by illness.

They have also booked Scott Campos to step in at reserve in place of Tom Bacon, who underwent shoulder surgery early last week. Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, who has guested in the last two home meetings, is unavailable for personal reasons.

Rider replacement will again cover for the ill Bradley Wilson-Dean and Ipswich also use that facility with Justin Sedgmen out.
Gates open at 3.30pm at the East of England Arena today. Normal admission prices apply.
