CHRIS UP FOR CHALLENGE!

MAJOR signing Chris Harris is relishing the challenge of leading Peterborough's bid for SGB Championship silverware this season.

The three-time British champion was snapped up by the 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers late last week.

And, after being frustrated by successive rain-offs in his first two intended appearances for the club, he hopes it will be a case of third time lucky tomorrow (Sunday) when Peterborough travel to Scunthorpe for a KO Cup quarter-final clash.

"It looks like I brought bad weather with me," said Harris, after seeing a Saturday trip to Glasgow and a Bank Holiday Monday home date against Workington washed out.

"It's obviously not the start I wanted after signing for Peterborough, but hopefully the weather will be better this weekend.

"I'm here to race and can't wait to get going."

Harris is racing in the second tier of the sport for the first time since 2003. That was also the second of two successive years in which he doubled up to represent Peterborough in what was then the Elite League.

And he is delighted to be back in the red and black of Panthers again some 14 years later.

"Peterborough were prepared to give me my first chance in the top-flight," added Harris. "So it's great to be able to come back and help the club now.

"Doubling-up was always on my mind for this season and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to do that.

"It's far from being a step backwards. I see it as a move in the right direction to getting the amount of meetings I feel I need.

"You also only have to look at the team line-ups to see there are plenty of good riders in this league - guys of the calibre of Danny King and Craig Cook.

"That's all part of the challenge and I'll do everything I can to help the team be successful."

Harris has taken over as Peterborough's number one rider after his arrival. He is joined in the main body of the team by Jack Holder, Paul Starke, Ulrich Ostergaard and Bradley Wilson-Dean, with Simon Lambert and Tom Bacon operating at reserve.
