THE thoughts of all at Peterborough Speedway are with Danny Phillips as he prepares to undergo major surgery today.

The 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers asset suffered a broken back and broken femur in a track crash yesterday when riding for his National League side, King's Lynn Young Stars, at Mildenhall.

Phillips was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where he will now undergo two operations.

"We all know the dangers involved in this sport, but this has really hit me hard," said Peterborough promoter Ged Rathbone.

"I've known Danny and his family for a long time, and they're great people.

"I was working with Danny at Berwick on Saturday night and it was awful to hear of his crash yesterday.

"It goes without saying that we thank all the medical staff who treated Danny and we wish him the speediest recovery.

"He's going to need two operations - one to insert rods to support his back, and another to pin his femur.

"It's obviously going to be a long road ahead, but he's in good spirits."
