SIMON FANCIES A FIRST

PETERBOROUGH man Simon Lambert hopes to reach the British Championship final for the first time.

Lambert lines up in the second semi-final at Sheffield tonight (Thursday) where a top-eight finish will secure qualification.

And a good performance at Owlerton Stadium could also kick-start testimonial man Lambert's season. He has endured a tough start to the campaign after a lengthy injury lay-off.

Lambert said: "I've never made it to the final and it would be brilliant to do it.

"No-one will expect me to qualify on current form, but I'm going to Sheffield to give it my best shot. I love the track there.

"It hasn't been a great start to the season, but a couple of weeks without a meeting has given me time to chill out and go through my equipment.

"It's never nice to be struggling. I don't sleep and I end up falling out with my family and friends.

"No-one beats themselves up more than I do."

One 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers man - Paul Starke - has already booked his place in the British Championship final.

Starke came through the first semi at Newcastle last Sunday - now Lambert would love to join him at the National Speedway Stadium on June 19.

He added: "It is an absolutely awesome place and I'd love to race there again.

"I rode there last year for King's Lynn in the Elite League and loved it.

"It was the meeting before I had the crash that ended my season."
