BJERRE ON BOARD FOR DERBY DATE

Sunday April 16, 2017
PETERBOROUGH have snapped up Lasse Bjerre for their Easter Monday revenge mission against Ipswich.

The Danish ace will step into the 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers septet for the SGB Championship clash at the East of England Showground, 3pm.

Bjerre takes the place of Paul Starke, who suffered a shoulder injury in a 60-32 loss at Ipswich last night.

It's a result that Peterborough are determined to put right tomorrow by returning to winning ways in front of their own fans.

Promoter Ged Rathbone said: "Lasse is a terrific rider who jumped at the chance to help us out.

"We all know what he is capable of doing at the Showground from his performances as a Peterborough rider in the past, or as an opponent more recently.

"He's a cracking replacement for Paul and I'm sure he will do all he can to help us deliver the right response after losing so heavily at Ipswich.

"We didn't get carried away by winning our opening four meetings of the season, so we're not going to panic about one defeat.

"But it is safe to say that one really hurt last night and we are determined to make amends for it.

Skipper Ulrich Ostergaard is set to race through the pain barrier tomorrow after also being forced to withdraw through injury at Foxhall Stadium.

Ostergaard suffered a badly twisted knee in a heat 10 spill in which team-mate Bradley Wilson-Dean was unable to avoid him.

The Dane was also left with a written-off bike and is frantically putting together new equipment today.

Rathbone added: "Ulrich has shown true captain's spirit by declaring himself available for tomorrow even though he was involved in a nasty crash last night.

"Bradley had no time to react when Ulrich lost control in front of him, and Ulrich's knee took the brunt of the impact.

"He was one of many riders to come unstuck on a track which I felt was far too grippy.

"It's clear from speaking to people at Ipswich that they changed the way the track was prepared due to the fact they were riding against us.

"I guess that is a back-handed compliment in some ways, but I could never sacrifice the standard of racing served up in that way.

"We certainly won't do anything different to our track tomorrow. We'll have the same fair surface as always with the aim of producing exciting racing to entertain what will hopefully be another big crowd."

The Easter Monday clash will be preceded by a signing session with Panthers riders in the pits, and a public track-walk as we again give supporters the chance to sample the East of England Showground from a riders' perspective.

And the main meeting against Ipswich is followed by more junior action with the opening round of the 125cc class in the British Youth Championship to create a bumper afternoon of action.
